studio mumbai

we've been enjoying looking at the work of studio mumbai based in india (found via one of our favourite blogs - the best time of the day). beautiful use of wood, glass, stone, water, fabric, with beautiful shapes that play with light & dark. we love the wooden slated screens that occur in many of their projects and the use of agricultural shade net that wraps the structure of the reading room project to let in light & air.

"The essence of our work lies in the relationship between land and architecture, it requires coming to terms with the presence of the environment through the succession of seasons. Projects are developed through careful consideration of place and a practice that draws from traditional skills, local building techniques, materials, and an ingenuity arising from limited resources"

work in progress: metal & oak for the two pieces we are working on at the moment. we are really looking forward to showing you these when they are finished.

story + deli

story has always been one of our favourite places - it's such a beautiful space and ann shores styling is perfect. we went to the story deli for pizza twice while we were exhibiting at Origin - if you haven't already been, we think you should.

assemblage 1 by studio toogood

studio toogood can do no wrong in our eyes - we were so gutted to have missed the debut during the london design festival of their 1st collection of objects (the project called super natural was on at the same time as we were exhibiting at Origin, so we couldn't go).

the collection, titled assemblage 1, features furniture, lighting & textiles of simple geometric forms from wood, stone & brass. we think the collection is beautiful and, as always with studio toogood, the styling of the project is perfect. our favourite pieces are element table, element light in stone, mobile and diagonal textile 1.

solo exhibition at makers gallery

we spent monday setting up our solo exhibition at Makers Gallery in Taunton, Somerset. the exhibition features a selection of our accessories including our little mirrors, some larger pieces like our panoramic mirrors and large portrait mirrors and a squares configuration, as well as clocks and little gold leaf bowl lanterns.

the exhibition opened on tuesday 5th and runs until 14th november but we will also be putting work into the xmas exhibition which runs until the end of december.

we thought we'd show you a few pictures that we took of the exhibition - hope you like them and if you are in the area, do go and have a look (our exhibition is upstairs in the gallery). Makers is a co-operative gallery run by it's members so features work by them which includes pottery, textiles, woodwork, jewellery, etchings & more.

thanks for visiting us at origin

thankyou to everyone that came to see us at Origin. we met some really lovely people and had such nice comments about our work. alot of people said that they thought our work was honest and real which is exactly what we wanted to get across to people. there is this misconception that if something looks very simple then it must have been simple to design - it was nice to talk to people about our work and explain how we spend such a long time getting proportions just right and that simplicity in a design doesn't mean it wasn't a complicated process. alot of people got it which is cool.

we sold our rust console table that went to a lovely house in Cambridge and our beautiful off-set slate mirror has gone to a house in Bosham on the south coast. our sushi serving plates were really popular - we sold all the sets we had made for the show.

we had lovely neighbours at the show too and saw so many lovely things that we wanted to buy - we are going to do a couple more posts about some of the other artists who's work we loved. it was nice to catch up with a few friends and to meet a few of you who read this blog too!

thanks again to everyone that visited us & keep an eye on our events & news page and this blog for info about our next shows, exhibitions and open studios.
