contemporary craft fair update

thankyou to everyone that visited us at this years Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey. despite the awful weather on the sunday, we still had a good show and it was nice to catch up with you all.
no pictures of our stand this year unfortunately ..... we left it until last thing on sunday to take some photographs and realised we'd left the battery for our camera at home.

so we thought we'd share a photograph we took of this lovely little pot that we bought at the show by maker Lucianna Gallucci. Lucianna's work and her stand at the show looked beautiful - her website will be online soon.
as always, there was lots of beautiful work at the show - we'll do a little collection of our favourites next week.

the contemporary craft fair 2011

The Contemporary Craft Fair at Bovey Tracey is this friday, saturday & sunday {10 - 12 june}. we will be exhibiting new work there so we hope you can make it along to the event - we are stand A29.

The event showcases 165 of the uk's finest designer makers from many disciplines including ceramics, glass, textiles, furniture, jewellery, metal, fashion, mixed media and more. there is also workshops, demonstrations, children's craft tent, entertainment, great food & live music over the 3 day event.

a long overdue thankyou to everyone that came to see us at our 2nd love factor group exhibition precious in appledore. everyones work looked amazing in the huge white space of the old glove factory (thanks again to Sandy for letting us hold the exhibition there).

we each had a display box filled with things that were precious to us - this one is ours.

new work - groupies

our latest work is called groupies, a collection of small tables combining raw materials: steel + brass + old oak.

our concept behind groupies started with little pieces of reclaimed oak that we had been saving - too precious to not be made into something beautiful like these little tables.
always passionate about the imperfections in the materials we use, we felt that with groupies they should be left as raw as possible.
the oak is left natural and the metal bases show the welds and the colour change that happens durning the heating process. as a contrast to the thick gnarly old oak tops of most of the groupies, one table has a thin polished brass top.

a missing month

we've been off the radar for about a month.
we had been catching up and planning stuff and working hard and, before we knew it, may had come and gone. so, we have loads of stuff to tell you about and we have summer events coming up so hopefully we'll catch up with some of you too. thankyou to everyone that visited us at our easter open studio and our 2nd love factor exhibition precious (photographs from the show coming up on the blog soon). lots of details about the summer shows coming up over the next few posts as well and we are going to show you our latest work next - hope you like it.

open studio - 28th april to 1st may

we are opening our studio in Welcombe, Devon for 4 days {28th april - 1st may} so we'd love to see you. it's our 1st open studio of the year - come and see where we live and where we design & make our furniture and accessories, see new work and snap up some discounted pieces!
we will have a selection of mirrors, clocks, lamps and leaf lanterns as well as our oak chopping/serving boards and our sushi serving plates. we will also have a selection of new furniture.
you can find directions to Welcombe {here} ...... follow signs to our studio from the A39 at Welcombe Cross {we are 150 yards from The Old Smithy Inn and Welcombe Pottery}.
we are open from 10.30am to 4pm - hope to see you at our place.

love factor presents: precious

our next exhibition starts this friday and we will be showcasing new work - we hope you can make it along {we will be present over the 4 days along with the other love factor members}.

love factor presents: precious {22nd - 25th april}

what do we perceive as precious ?

this easter sees an eclectic exhibition of contemporary furniture exploring the concept of what we see as precious, presented by 5 leading designer makers from the southwest.

in their 2nd love factor exhibition, paul anderson, sam walsh, christian o'reilly and glenn rushbrooke + samantha robb {pachadesign} will be showcasing new work over the 4 days at renowned ceramicist sandy brown's glove factory in appledore, north devon.

sammy of pachadesign explains: "to us, precious is about how much we love & cherish something. it's about its meaning to us, not simply its monetary value. what we make, why we make it, how we make it, the materials that we use, the lifestyle we have chosen as designer makers: it's all incredibly precious to us".

as well as giving an in-depth view into the meanings & processes behind their work, the makers will also highlight what is precious to each of them.

the exhibition runs from 22nd - 25th april {open daily 10.30am - 4pm, all designer makers will be present}
