bowerbird

we're looking forward to buying our copy of sibella court's latest book, bowerbird.
we loved her other books, nomad and etcetera, full of beautiful images taken by sibella's brother, photographer chris court, so I'm sure we will love this book too.

kristin perers' home

we think photographer kristin perers' former home, a converted furniture factory in london's columbia road market, is lovely.
a beautiful mix of white and wood, natural materials, baskets, oil paintings and linens.
and we love her description of the space too - look for it on one of the images on her "about me" page.

we've posted before about how mark borthwick is one of our favourite photographers - take a look at his work {here} and get a copy of "not in fashion" if you like what you see. we also love the space he lives in - this is his townhouse in brooklyn. beautiful, simple calm spaces full of light & plants & musical instruments & japanese teapots.

le petite bastide

we have fallen a little bit in love with this house. we know it's been featured on blogs before (we remember seeing it ages ago but can't quite recall where) but we were reminded of it the other day via deb's tumblr and sarah's blog. we couldn't resist featuring it here.

there is so much we love about it: white washed walls, beautiful concrete floors, the stunning mirror above the beautiful sink, simple pieces here and there that just work perfectly together - pared down elegance.
the location is beautiful too - in amongst olive groves and vineyards in Luberon in France. enjoy.

former church building, south africa

we love the simplicity of this former church building in South Africa. the interior has beautiful chalky coloured walls with the outside painted black and brown - the cacti in white pots are a great contrast. we love the use of rustic furniture, sculptural mirrors and the beautiful chandelier in the bedroom.

i gigi

i gigi, the beautiful store in Hove, launched it's online shop today. selling a mix of furniture, homewares, gifts, and clothing - with muted, earthy tones and lots of natural materials, it's one of our favourites.







the new website also has a portfolio section showing images from two house projects - owners Alex and Zoe offer a personal service for interior consultations from upholstery and soft furnishings, home staging to complete house projects.

uxua casa hotel

hope you all had a lovely weekend. we are a bit late with posting this week, it being wednesday already, but we are so busy at the moment. we have been working hard getting lots of lovely things made for The Contemporary Craft Fair {details here} and our summer open studio {details about that soon}. and we will be setting up for the Appledore Visual Arts Festival exhibition this week too {details here}.

so, we're working long long hours at the moment but dreaming of holidays: warming sunshine, calm blue seas, hammocks & cool breezes, green tropical plants, white washed huts on the beach. and we're dreaming of this beautiful place on the Bahia coastline in Brazil owned by Wilbert Das. Uxua Casa Hotel consists of nine houses built & decorated by local artisans using traditional building methods and recycled materials, set within a beautiful secret garden.

another house within a house

tuesdays post reminded us of another house within a house that we saw a while ago that we thought was just so lovely - we're sure some of you have seen this before.

the old pigsty, originally built in 1780, had a wood framed inner house built & put into it creating a house within a house. we love this kind of architecture - so often old buildings are renovated and then lose everything that was lovely about their weathered history and decay. we are not against mixing brand new materials with old (you only have to look at our own work to see that) but it's when the old is completely lost that we find it a little sad. building a new structure and placing it inside the old one, like this pigsty, is a lovely solution.




we're sure there must be other places like this - where the skeleton of the building has been kept intact and a new structure has been built inside. please leave us a comment if you know of any, thanks.
