isabel dammermann
a little selection of some of our favourite pieces from jeweller isabel dammermann. these stunning pieces are from her "treasuries" collection. isabel uses some unusual & beautiful materials for her work: found objects, silver, fake ivory, shibuishi, shells, fabric and even transparent paper.
we love the way her silver pieces look so raw and chalky and unpolished, like the two neck pieces and the two rings below. and we had never heard of shibuishi until seeing her work - an alloy of silver & copper that, in isabel's pieces, produce beautiful colours from blacks & greys to reds/pinks & browns.
1. rings, silver
2. pendant, silver, cotton
3. brooch, silver, shell
4. necklace, silver, ebony, leather
5. brooch, shibuishi, silver, found stone

noma + ditte isager
we always have books on our xmas wish lists and this year noma is one of them. noma: time & place in nordic cuisine is a collection of over 90 recipes created by chef rené redzepi with some beautiful photographs by ditte isager, one of our favourite photographers. we have admired her work for a long time and the images she has taken for this book look stunning. we have only glimpsed a few shots that ditte has on her website but it's enough for us to want this book. so, it's on our xmas list and if we get it, maybe we'll be trying our hand at nordic cuisine over the holidays. some of the recipes sound very intriguing.

tredegar house - made by hand 2010
we are a little late with this post .... we came home from last weekend's show to lots of orders so we have been pretty busy this week.
thanks to everyone that came to see us at Made by Hand held at the beautiful Tredegar House in Newport. we had a really good show and, despite the bad weather that was forecast for that weekend, there were lots of visitors - so thankyou to everyone that braved the cold and came to visit. the show hosted a great selection of designer makers from all over the uk and looked beautiful set in the house & grounds of Tredegar House.

a few thankyou's
thankyou to everyone that came to see us at the crux craft fair at the weekend and especially to Molly & Mr G ... it was really lovely to meet you both and glad you liked the lanterns you bought from us. we completely sold out of them just after you bought yours.
Molly wrote a lovely piece about us {here} on her blog last week and then came to visit us at the fair. you can read about her day at crux craft fair {here}.
we also wanted to say a huge thanks again to David for including our oak edge & slate dining table in his blog post "portrait of a dining table" .... what an honour! you can have a look at the post {here} and do check out the rest of David's blog Y.H.B.H.S ..... it's one of our favourites so we weren't surprised to see that it was recently included on Remodelista's 100+ must read design blogs!
another big thankyou to Devon Life magazine for including our leaf lanterns in their Made In Devon article about inspirational xmas gifts made by local artists. you can find the article in the december issue.
and finally thankyou to those of you that emailed about the free tickets for our next show Made By Hand - the winner was Stuart from Bristol - your tickets are in the post and we hope to see you this weekend in Newport, Wales.

and we have neglected our garden for a little while now.
it's covered in autumn leaves .... but it's still there.

billy bride
we spotted one of these beautiful rings on the man make home blog and had to investigate further. these stunning raw crystal rings are made by renee warne as part of her billy bride jewellery collection. all pieces are made in australia using indigene australian materials.
we think they are beautiful and we love the way she is passionate about keeping the stones so raw so as not to distract from their natural state.
there are more lovely rings on her website and do check out her blog too (details below).
lita - pyrite, energy & fire, boosts confidence & communication and overcomes indecision.
orin - smokey topaz, a divination stone, brings heightened awareness & clarity of mind.
ieke - clear quartz, a harmonizing stone, to amplify energy & thought.
issa - lapis lazuli, truth & protection, brings harmony & self knowledge, stimulates objectivity.

we had a lovely email the other day from Olivier at wo & wé collection telling us how he liked our work and asking us if we would have a look at his work. so, we had a look and we loved it and we thought we'd share it with you.
Olivier is a light "creator-assembler" and makes the coolest adjustable vintage lamps, restored & re-assembled from industrial components. He is based in Lyon, France and has been creating, restoring and assembling his pieces over the last four months.
we think they are very cool. we love where he photographs them too. hope you enjoy looking at his work as much as we did.

studio mumbai
we've been enjoying looking at the work of studio mumbai based in india (found via one of our favourite blogs - the best time of the day). beautiful use of wood, glass, stone, water, fabric, with beautiful shapes that play with light & dark. we love the wooden slated screens that occur in many of their projects and the use of agricultural shade net that wraps the structure of the reading room project to let in light & air.
"The essence of our work lies in the relationship between land and architecture, it requires coming to terms with the presence of the environment through the succession of seasons. Projects are developed through careful consideration of place and a practice that draws from traditional skills, local building techniques, materials, and an ingenuity arising from limited resources"

assemblage 1 by studio toogood
studio toogood can do no wrong in our eyes - we were so gutted to have missed the debut during the london design festival of their 1st collection of objects (the project called super natural was on at the same time as we were exhibiting at Origin, so we couldn't go).
the collection, titled assemblage 1, features furniture, lighting & textiles of simple geometric forms from wood, stone & brass. we think the collection is beautiful and, as always with studio toogood, the styling of the project is perfect. our favourite pieces are element table, element light in stone, mobile and diagonal textile 1.
